Task 4: Pitch your ideas (P4, M3)

Video

Presentation Powered by emaze From watching the video of myself pitching the final presentation for my magazine to the client I have been able to understand the feedback that I was given and I have been able to decide how I will change aspects of the planning for the magazine for when I create it.

The positive feedback that I received included the opinion on my font as well as the opinion on my mock up drafts for both the front cover and the double page spread. The client definitely liked the look of them which shows that I put a lot of effort into the designs.

There were many parts of my presentation that are questionable, and these were pointed out by the client.

1. One of the first questions mentioned my logos (Font ideas for the masthead), and I was asked what my thoughts were when choosing one over the other. This was because I presented my two different ideas for fonts to show that I used broad knowledge to create designs.

2. After this, I have understood that the client believes that I have limited myself to one colour for the colour scheme. This colour being red. The reasoning is due to me providing mock ups of the front cover that show a lot of red font along with white. I did this because I plan to stick to a theme for the colours. While this is very good, the client suggested that it could be quite limiting, especially if it occurs in every issue of the magazine, because it would get repetitive.

3. The client was curious to know how I plan to get the permission of the artist to be able to use them for the product. I understand that this was asked because it is clear that it will be a challenge to actually get in contact with them, as well as getting them to agree to an interview and a photoshoot. Therefore it was important that I explained to the client how I plan to do so.

4. Likewise, I was asked if the magazine would be based on current artists or any other types of artist. It was important to ask this otherwise the client would not know what types of artists I plan to base the magazine on. For example, I plan to base it on North London only, but other magazines may showcase grime as a whole.

5. I was also asked about the name of my magazine and what it suggests geographically. The client was wondering if it means North London or if it suggests north of any city.

6. The content was also an issue. This is because there was a concern that this magazine may not have enough worthy content to fill up the pages for every issue, and is therefore an important issue to take into account otherwise I may struggle to make this magazine successful if it lacks content. For example, in the first issue, I will create an article including an interview, but may struggle to think of other ideas for articles.

7. I have also understood that this magazine needs to reach the target audience as best possible, so I was asked how I plan to market the magazine. I did suggest social media, but other methods are required in which may be too expensive.

8. I was also asked about a website. This was because it would be very good for the success of the magazine, and it is definitely something to consider to ensure that it sells effectively.

9. The client suggested that my layout was very formal and too neat for a grime magazine, which is a very good point to prove because if I were to make it look more informal and messy then the magazines articles would seem much more suited to grime.

10. Lastly, I was also questioned about the number of copies I plan to sell for the first issue. It was suggested that 200 copies is quite low, in which I agree with.
